John Douglas is the principal of Douglas Legal and has over 17 years' experience in property law. This includes roles as Senior Associate in the Property group of a former Australian top-tier firm (now part of a large international law firm), and Special Counsel roles in the respective Property group of two leading east coast law firms, each with a strong focus on property law.
He has extensive experience in:
commercial, industrial and retail leasing;
the acquisition and sale of commercial, industrial and retail property (including legal due diligence), as well as residential conveyancing;
general leasing and property advice (such as defaulting tenants and make good disputes).
John has acted for a broad range of clients, including listed global companies, high net worth private corporation landlords with substantial landholdings, individuals and Commonwealth and State government departments.
Douglas Legal was created to provide clients with a large firm calibre of service but at a more reasonable cost than large firms can offer.
In respect to leasing, he has consistently acted for both landlords and tenants throughout his career. This has enabled him to have a deep understanding of leasing transactions from the different perspectives, ensuring John's advice in a leasing transaction is both thorough and commercial in approach.
John is admitted to practise in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education, in addition to his Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree.
